The Colorado Water 2012 Coalition

We have an exciting opportunity for libraries and museums to participate in the Colorado Water 2012 Public Awareness Campaign. The Colorado Water 2012 Campaign is a public awareness campaign that aims to engage all Coloradans in a statewide celebration of water: past, present, and future.

We would like to request your help in this project by asking you to host a display and, if interested, provide volunteer opportunities and offer programs to address the goals of the initiative. Free high-quality traveling exhibits and programming ideas will be provided to all Colorado libraries and museums. Assistance with speakers and potential partners will also be available for you during the 2012 calendar year.

The goals of this collaborative endeavor are to:

·         Raise awareness about water as a valuable and limited resource.

·         Increase support for management and protection of Colorado’s water and waterways.

·         Showcase exemplary collaborative, cooperative models among Colorado water users.

·         Connect Coloradans to existing and new opportunities to learn about water.

Water is integral to our ecosystems, health, quality of life, and economy. The Colorado Water 2012 Coalition believes that by “celebrating” water we will be more successful in meeting these challenges. We encourage Colorado Libraries to take a leadership role in their communities in this initiative. Colorado Water 2012 is spearheaded by the Colorado Foundation for Water Education, in collaboration with a coalition of more than 200 individuals, representing over 150 organizations.

Here are a few more details about the traveling displays we are offering to libraries and museums to guide your decision:

·         The display is a table-top model and fits on a 6 foot table.

·         The full size is 72” wide x 59.5” high.

·         The weight of the display is 51 lbs., not including the carrying case and will be delivered to you via courier – no costs involved.

One side is blank and covered with fabric so that local water-related documents, posters, book lists, photos, etc. can be easily and temporarily attached with Velcro. On the other side, 1/3 of the exhibit will be available for local interest. 2/3 is covered by a huge poster created by volunteer students at the Art Institute of Colorado.

The Colorado Library Consortium (CLiC) courier service will deliver and pick up the display after a two-week “engagement.” The cost of transportation, as well as the cost to purchase some of the displays, is covered by a grant received from Xcel Energy Foundation.

We hope you will consider participating in the Colorado Water 2012 initiative. Please use this link http://surveys.lrs.org/respond.php?sid=192 by October 15 to indicate your interest

We will tabulate the number of requests and set up a master calendar. You can read more about Colorado Water 2012 and all the other planned activities on the web at www.water2012.org

Additional information will be forthcoming on a One Book, One Colorado program associated with this initiative and spearheaded by Justice Greg Hobbs.
