Today I joined the Colorado Education Association in recognizing more than 49 National Board Certified Teachers from across the state. The celebration was held at the CEA offices in Denver. Linda Barker, CEA director of teaching and learning welcomed the teachers before they crossed the street to meet their legislators at the capitol for "NBCT Day."
When they returned, I was able to thank them for all the perseverance they've demonstrated in attaining National Board Certification. These teachers become instant role models in their communities and for their students. The room was filled with teachers receiving their certification for the first time and with teachers renewing their certification and commitment to the teaching profession. In 2009, Colorado was home to 478 teachers with national board certification, including 75 in the latest crop.
National Board Certified Teachers
are highly accomplished educators who meet high and rigorous standards,
it was a pleasure to honor them today.
