Colorado Charter School Startup Grant Opportunities

The Colorado Department of Education's Schools of Choice (SOC) Unit administers the federal Charter School Program [Title V, Part B of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) (P.L. 107-110)] grant for the state. The USDOE has awarded CDE this grant from 2010-2015, a five-year period. Below is a summary of CDE's approved grant application.

Charter School Startup and Implementation Grant Program

The Colorado Department of Education awarded over $7,066,611 in startup and implementation grants to approved Colorado charter school applicants during the 2009-2010 school year.

Startup grants (for year one) and implementation grants (for years two and three) may be awarded for expenses associated with:

  • professional development
  • board training
  • facility code issues
  • curriculum
  • library development, and
  • technology
Since the startup phase of this grant is competitive, independent reviewers are selected to score applications. An Eligibility Form, an Intent to Submit Form and an Agreement of Understanding Form are required to be filled out and collected at the Startup Grant Writer's Training. Links for all forms are below. Training

Unless you have received approval to be exempt, you are highly encouraged to attend a Startup Grant Writer's Training prior to submitting your startup grant application.

Tier I and Tier II Startup Grant Writer's Training is offered on a yearly basis in August and in January. Implementation Grant Writer's Training is also offered on a yearly basis in either August or September. Click on the following link to view a schedule of upcoming trainings.
