Colorado Charter School Startup Grant Opportunities

The Colorado Department of Education's Schools of Choice (SOC) Unit administers the federal Charter School Program (No Child Left Behind, Title V, Part B) grant for the state. The USDOE has awarded CDE this grant from 2007-2010, a three-year period. Below is a summary of CDE's approved grant application.

Charter School Startup and Implementation Grant Program

The Colorado Department of Education awarded approximately $7,066,611 in startup and implementation grants to approved Colorado charter school applicants during the 2008-2009 school year.

Startup grants (for year one) and implementation grants (for years two and three) may be awarded for expenses associated with:

professional development
board training
facility code issues
curriculum
library development, and
technology

Since the startup phase of this grant is competitive, independent reviewers are selected to score applications. An Eligibility Form and an Intent to Submit Form are required to be filled out and collected at the Startup Grant Writer's Training. Unless you have received approval from Denise Mund to be exempt, you are highly encouraged to attend a Startup Grant Writer's Training prior to submitting your startup grant application.

As a grantee of the federal Public Charter School Grant Program and a State Education Agency (SEA) who administers the Colorado Charter School Grant Program, CDE collects and reports data for its charter school subgrantees at the end of each fiscal year.
