Exclusive Chartering Authority
School districts may apply for exclusive chartering authority with the State Board of Education or they may automatically qualify for exclusive chartering authority based on certain demographics (please see administrative procedures below). Exclusive chartering authority allows the school district to act as the sole authorizer of charter schools within the district's boundaries. Schools wanting to apply for a charter through the Colorado Charter Schools Institute in districts that have secured exclusive chartering authority (see summary of school districts below) may not apply to the Charter Schools Institute without first receiving approval from the school district.
