Adult Education and Family Literacy Act (AEFLA)
State-Administered Federally-Funded Adult Education Grant Program
The Colorado Department of Education, Office of Adult Education and Family Literacy (CDE/AEFL) is soliciting applications from eligible providers to develop, implement and improve adult education and literacy activities in Colorado by establishing or operating programs that provide services or instruction in one or more of the following categories: Adult education and literacy services, including workplace literacy services; Family literacy services; and/or English literacy (English as a Second Language) programs.
CDE/AEFL is seeking applications that focus on adult education services that prepare ABE, ASE, and ESL learners at all levels for success in postsecondary education and work through:
- Program and instructional strategies that prepare and support adult learners transitioning to college and career
- Organizational strategies that position programs to adopt and deliver standards-based instruction
Eligible applicants include: Local education agencies (LEAs); Community based organizations of demonstrated effectiveness; Volunteer literacy organizations of demonstrated effectiveness; Institutions of higher education; Public or private non-profit agencies; Libraries; Public housing authorities; Non-profit institutions not described above and having the ability to provide literacy services to adults and families; and Consortia of the agencies, organizations, institutions, libraries, or authorities describe above.
Approximately $4.7 million in AEFLA funds will be available for distribution to successful applicants.
