I. Introduction

This handbook was produced by the Office of Adult Education Initiatives (AEI) to provide federal Adult Education and Family Literacy Act (AEFLA) and state Adult Education Literacy Act (AELA) grantees information about the requirements they must adhere to as recipients of funds under the grant. The goal is for grantees to have a clear and comprehensive understanding of what is expected of them. Additional technical assistance and resource documents will be provided through other means.

AEI will do its best to keep the handbook up-to-date, but as new guidance and regulations are released there may be instances when content is labeled “to be revised” while the team works to incorporate the new information. Other items may be labeled “draft” to signal that AEI would appreciate feedback from the field about that content. Please note that AEI does not control or guarantee the accuracy, relevance, timeliness, or completeness of outside information. Grantees will be contacted if there are any updates to this handbook.

This introduction section provides an overview of the AEFLA grant, the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, and how AEI will communicate with grantees.

If you have any questions about the content or meaning of the information provided in this handbook, please contact your Adult Education Program Coordinator as outlined in the Communication section).
