The Colorado State Library now offers Baby and Toddler Storytime Kits for Colorado libraries to borrow! We hope these kits will allow your library to offer baby- and toddler-specific storytimes for the first time, refresh your existing programs, or let you to explore new titles and fun resources. Each kit features 4 picture or board books, 1 professional development book, 1 children's music CD, and manipulatives, as well as a guide with 2 complete sample storytimes, early literacy tips for parents related to the kit contents, and tips for you on implementing baby and toddler storytimes. All but the Toddler Intro Kit contain 12 copies of one of the board or picture books so that each parent can have one to share with his/her child during the storytime. The kits are based on Every Child Ready to Read, 2nd edition, and feature books, songs, rhymes, early literacy tips for parents, and hands-on activities that correspond with the critical early literacy activities of reading, talking, singing, writing, and playing.
There are 2 copies of each of the following kits available:
- Baby Storytime: Intro Kit (perfect for those that have not offered a baby storytime before or in a long time); pictured above
- Baby Storytime: talking and reading kit
- Baby storytime: Singing, movement, & music kit
- Toddler storytime: Intro kit
- Toddler storytime: writing kit
- Toddler storytime: playing kit
Staff in Colorado libraries may check out kits directly from the State Library (call Yessa Hargono at 303-866-6726) or through Prospector or the SWIFT interlibrary loan system for 6 weeks at a time, and may renew if there is not a hold on that kit. Search for the kits using the titles in the bulleted lists above. The kits are not available to out of state libraries or organizations other than libraries at this time.
Please check out our flyer with info on the kits, including color photos of the contents of each kit!
