Introduction

The Technology Readiness Tool (TRT) was created by Pearson for the two main multi-state assessment consortia, The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC), and the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC). It is designed to collect device and local data to determine technology readiness for the math and English language arts online assessments scheduled to be administered in the spring of 2015.

The tool can:

  • Provide analysis reports based on minimum and recommended guidelines.
  • Evaluate the district’s readiness for online assessment.
  • Find a district’s ratio of students to devices.
  • Inform the district’s allocation and procurement of technology resources.
  • Assist districts with identifying a corrective action plan for online testing readiness.

CDE and PARCC plan to use the data from this tool to evaluate state readiness for online assessment, and to set policies regarding online assessment.

Technology Guidelines

PARCC Math and English Language Arts Online Summative Assessments 2015

Visit the PARCC technology page for the most up-to-date PARCC technology guidelines. These technology guidelines are specific to the 2015 math and English language arts online assessments. They will provide planning and implementation guidance in coordination with the existing efforts around the PARCC Technology Readiness Tool.

Colorado Science and Social Studies Summative Assessments 2014

It is important to understand that the current technology requirements for the Colorado Science and Social Studies online Summative Assessments that will be operational in 2014 are different from the PARCC technology requirements in 2015. Pearson, the Colorado science and social studies assessment test vendor, has minimum hardware requirements for all workstations used to access TestNav 7.5, the web based test engine that will be used to deliver the science and social studies online assessments in 2014. Moving towards 2015, Pearson is working to develop a test engine for all Colorado Online Summative Assessments that will share common technology requirements with PARCC guidelines.

TRT Data Extraction Dates

PARCC has established specific points in time at which data will be extracted from the TRT and used to make policy decisions.

    First - Saturday, June 30, 2012
Additional anticipated extraction date: September 30, 2012
    Second - Friday, December 14, 2012
Additional anticipated extraction date: February 15, 2013
    Third - Friday, June 14, 2013
    Fourth - Friday, December 13, 2013
    Fifth - Friday, June 13, 2014
    Sixth - Monday, August 18, 2014

CDE recommends that all school Data be loaded into the TRT by March 29th 2013.

This report will be used by the PARCC Consortia and CDE to better assess and understand the dimensions of technology readiness at the state, district and school levels. The data gathered from the TRT will also guide CDE and PARCC as policies regarding online assessment are set.

The TRT will provide districts with analysis reports based on minimum and recommended guidelines down to a school level. This can assist districts and schools with identifying a corrective action plan for online testing readiness.

Reset Passwords

You can reset your password by following the directions below:

    1. Click the Reset Password link to go to the Forgot Password page.
    2. Enter your user name and email address, then click Request Password Reset. In most cases,
the user name and email address will be the same.
    3. Follow the instructions in the system-generated email.

Note: For security, all passwords must have 8 to 32 characters, and are required to include at least three of the following four character types:

    • 1 uppercase character
    • 1 lowercase character
    • 1 number
    • 1 special character from this set: ~`!@#$%^&*()_-+=}{[]|\:;<,>.?/

Creating Colorado School Codes for the Technology Readiness Tool

In Colorado, 4 digit school codes are not unique from the 4 digit district codes. The TRT will not allow schools and districts to share identical codes.

For example, the Mesa County Valley School District 51 has a Chatfield Elementary School with a 4 digit school code of 1520. Durango 9-R has the same 4 digit code, 1520. The TRT will not recognize the elementary school because its code is identical to Durango’s district code. Code duplication will result in the following error:

“Error: "The parent organization (2000) must be the same as the existing parent
    organization (CO).”
To resolve this issue, there is a Colorado state specific convention for combining the 4 digit district code with the 4 digit school code when you are setting up your schools in the Technology Readiness Tool.

Code- The code must be entered in the Local Code format:

    1. First, use the two-character state abbreviation, separated by a hyphen.
    2. Next, include the 4 digit district code, separated by a hyphen.
    3. Finally, include the 4 digit school code supplied by the state.

    For example, CO-1234-5678

Local code - The local code should be entered in the following format:

    1. First, use the 4 digit district code, separated by a hyphen.
    2. Next, include the 4 digit school code supplied by the state.

    For example, 1234-5678

From now on, please use this convention when entering your schools into the TRT.

If you have already entered data into the TRT without errors, there is no need to change existing school codes.

Recommended Guidelines for TRT Testing Sessions and Testing Windows

Testing windows for PARCC and Colorado-developed Science and Social Studies assessments have not been finalized. Recommendations are subject to change.

Current recommendations include the need for 3 testing sessions per content area, allowing 1 hour per session and a 4 to 6 week testing window. These testing sessions, test duration, and testing window are guidelines for the TRT tool and not the official parameters for online testing. PARCC and CDE will determine official parameters after examination of the TRT data. These parameters are offered to help your district in planning for 2015.

It is up to districts/schools to determine the appropriate number of testing environments (rooms) and the number of devices in each environment. All of these factors must be considered when determining the number of test sessions required for each school.
