Participation Opportunities in Colorado's District Sample Curriculum Project

Opportunities will be available for Colorado educators at all levels to participate in the development of Colorado's curriculum samples. This timeline and participation guidelines are tied directly to our Development Plan for the Colorado's District Sample Curriculum Project.

UPDATE: Participants can apply for 2 UNC graduate credits for a nominal fee. Details will be disseminated in each workshop.

Colorado Educator Participation

This summer, the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) will convene a group of educators to participate in the creation of full instructional units based on select samples (unit overviews) created during the first phase of Colorado’s District Sample Curriculum Project. In this next phase of the project, the Standards and Instructional Support (SIS) office will work alongside Colorado teachers and district leaders to create units at every grade and for all content areas. These units will include learning strategies, resource suggestions, differentiation options, and assessment ideas linked to helping all students achieve the big understandings (generalizations) in the (unit overview) sample.

During three-day workshops educators, working in teams, will produce at least one full instructional unit at each grade and content area that reflects a model of educators working together to plan for the instruction of all students. Teams will be comprised of:

  • 2 general education teachers (content specialists)
  • 1 ELL teacher
  • 1 Gifted and Talented teacher
  • 1 Special Education teacher
  • 1 Title One teacher (k-5 workshop only)

The CDE plan for facilitating sample curriculum depends on the participation of dedicated teachers throughout Colorado who are responsible for the instructional delivery of standards-based curricula. As with the fall workshops, the SIS team will diligently pursue the participation of educators to ensure representation of the diverse teaching force and districts across Colorado.
