School Improvement Grant Program

School improvement grants are available to eligible schools identified for Title I improvement corrective action or restructuring. Each school is eligible to receive up to $150,000 over a two-year period for school improvement support services. The School Improvement Grant program is structured upon a continuous improvement cycle, with the first phase of the grant award focused on a comprehensive needs assessment and the development of a quality school improvement plan.  This phase of the grant provides funds for a school support team review (the comprehensive needs assessment), facilitated improvement plan development, and associated activities related to the report findings.

The second phase of the grant award targets the implementation of the school improvement plan strategies and evaluation of the impact at the completion of the grant cycle.

These funds must be spent according to the following criteria:

  • Expenditures that build the school’s capacity for improvement;
  • Expenditures that are tied to the findings in the School Support Team report;
  • Expenditures supplement school funding and do not supplant; and
  • Implementation of the school improvement plan strategies related to the grant has the full commitment of the school staff and community.
