Educator of Record

As Colorado builds a more robust data system to inform school and district improvement, common terminology must be defined to ensure higher quality data.  To produce a reliable teacher/student data link, the state and districts must hold a common understanding of teacher assignments.

The overall purpose of establishing a statewide definition of Educator of Record (EOR) is to create an accurate and consistent link between teacher(s) and student(s).

Definition

Educator(s) of Record (EOR) An individual or individuals who have been assigned responsibility for a student's learning in a subject/course with aligned performance measures.
Contributing Professionals (CP) An individual or individuals who have been assigned responsibility to provide additional services that support and increase a student's learning in a subject/course with aligned performance measures.

Benefits of the Definition

In order ford CDE to accurately link teacher and student data it is essential that CDE have all the information necessary on students and teachers.  That information focuses on the courses teachers taught, the courses students are taking, and the outcomes of those courses.

Although, CDE currently collects some data on staff and students, it's not the data that is needed to effectively and accurately link.  Creating a standardized definition of Educator of Record will allow the districts to indicate which teachers to link to which students, therefore creating a reliable teacher/student data link.
