State Board of Education takes more time to review Lobato case
The Colorado State Board of Education held a special meeting today to consider possible next steps regarding the recent court ruling on the Lobato v. State lawsuit. Following an executive session, the board reconvened and announced it would not vote today, but instead hold another special meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 27 to hold the vote.
The State of Colorado, the State Board of Education, Governor John Hickenlooper and Commissioner Robert Hammond are named in their official capacities as defendants in the case. The Dec. 9 ruling by Denver District Judge Sheila Rappaport declared Colorado’s school funding system underfunded and not meeting the requirement in the Education Clause of the Colorado Constitution of a “thorough and uniform” system of public education. Governor Hickenlooper announced earlier today that he would appeal the ruling.
