Vody Herrmann, Director Of School Finance, Announces Retirement
Commissioner of Education Robert Hammond today announced the retirement of Vody Herrmann, assistant commissioner for school finance.
“For 11 years, Vody Herrmann has overseen one of the most intricate and important tasks in the department—distributing precious taxpayer dollars to districts,” said Commissioner Hammond. “She has been a model of support and service, an endless reservoir of knowledge about the complex world of school finance and a picture of poise in managing relationships with our school business partners across the state. You will not find anyone who works harder, cares more or who has earned more respect from her colleagues in the field. She is pure Colorado gold and her absence from the department will be enormous.”
Commissioner Hammond said Herrmann has agreed to work through March and assist with the transition to her successor. Hammond said a search for her replacement would begin immediately.
“I am honored to have worked for the department and with Colorado school districts,” said Herrmann. “I will miss working with school districts and all the fine professionals—both at the department and in the field—who are dedicated to improving student achievement. School district leaders across the state do a tremendous job of managing the resources they receive and often don’t receive the credit they deserve for their thoughtful and careful management of taxpayer resources. I will miss working with them. There is never a good time to take this step, but I reached a point where I know it feels right.”
In 2010, Herrmann received both the CASEY award from the Colorado Association of School Executives and the Stanley A. Leftwich Award from the Colorado BOCES Association for her outstanding contribution to school districts.
Prior to her work as director of school finance for CDE, Herrmann was director of school finance and auxiliary services for Morgan County School District Re-3 (Fort Morgan) for 14 years and director of business services for the South Platte Valley BOCES (Board of Cooperative Educational Services) for three years. Herrmann previously owned a welding shop, worked as a business manager for a hardware store and as a dispatcher for the Colorado State Patrol.
